Risk Assessments for High School Science
RiskAssess is a fast, simple and user-friendly system for performing, documenting, and communicating risk assessments while assisting with experiment scheduling and equipment ordering. RiskAssess was designed by teachers and laboratory technicians.
Meet Legal Obligations
It is legally required for all Australian schools to conduct risk assessments prior to experiments. RiskAssess provides a convenient and rapid method to meet these obligations in a manner that closely follows the Australia/New Zealand/International Organization for Standardization Standard AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 and the Risk Management Guidelines, HB 436:2004. RiskAssess also satisfies the requirements of school systems in all States of Australia, including the new DET requirements in Queensland and the new DEECD requirements in Victoria.
Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate RiskAssess. All the teachers here love it too, even the ones who were reluctant to use it. My life as a lab tech just got so much easier. Your response to feedback is great too.

Avoid Accidents
Safety data about chemicals, equipment and living organisms are stored in RiskAssess. When you choose a chemical or other item, RiskAssess automatically incorporates up-to-date safety information into the risk assessment. Click the risk assessment on the left to see how this works.
Save Paper and Filing
Risk assessments are stored on the system as electronic documents. Optionally, risk assessments can be emailed and signed electronically and do not need to be printed or filed.
Save Time
RiskAssess provides an electronic template which makes it easy and fast to perform risk assessments. See the template form on the right for a real life example, and the resulting risk assessment above.
Risk assessments can be easily shared between staff, copied and reused from year to year, saving time and sharing knowledge.
RiskAssesss assists communication between teachers and laboratory technicians in planning and preparing experiments. RiskAssess includes fields relating to the timetabling of the experiment and the items to be prepared. The teacher can then email this information with the risk assessment to the laboratory technician at the press of a button.
RiskAssess saves time with an automatic scheduling system which provide day by day, 1 week, and 4 week views of upcoming practicals, plus a view of which practicals have already been prepared. The scheduling system helps communicate experiment details and risk assessments between teachers and laboratory technicians, and when used with electronic signatures, removes the need for for practical diaries, booking systems and print outs.
